"Four" No. 1 at Box Office

To everyone's surprise, "Fantastic Four," the movie which is based on characters in the comic book stable of Marvel Enterprises Inc., surprisingly took in $56 million during its first three days. The had been in the works for 11 years movie has firstly been expected to reach only $30 million ticket sales, yet it did better and thus "Fantastic" soared to top the North American box office.

Apart, last weekend's champion, "War of the Worlds," slipped to No. 2 with $31.3 million for the three days beginning on Friday and soon followed by "Batman Begins" with $10.2 million. At 4th was "Dark Water" which raked in $10.1 million. Action thriller "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" slipped two places to No. 5 with $7.9 million, while "Herbie: Fully Loaded," opened at No. 6 with $6.3 million.

Originally planned for a June 29 release, 20th Century Fox made up its mind and tend to postpone the "Fantastic Four" for a July 7 release in an attempt to avoid clashing with the debut of "War of the Worlds," which led the box-office with about $77 million over the long July 4 holiday weekend. As for the plot, "Fantastic Four" tells the story of four astronauts who are transformed into superheroes by cosmic rays.

Will descend on North American movie theaters on Friday, the movie marking Marvel Enterprises Inc.'s latest venture to turn its comic book heroes into box office superpowers. Moreover, "Fantastic Four" is projected to generate $103 million and $200 million at domestic and global box offices.
