"El Cantante" to Head North Under Picturehouse

The executives at Picturehouse now can really draw a big smile on their mouths. The company has wonderfully gained North American distribution rights to biopic feature of "El Cantante" starring Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony.

Spending almost $6 million to reach the deal, Picturehouse therefore beats down fellow competitors of Miramax, Focus Features, and the Weinstein Co to the punch. The studio is planning a July 2007 release for the movie.

Big Titles Coming Down to Toronto Film Fest

Updating the news of this year's Toronto International Film Festival, some big titles have delightfully been announced to be included as part of the event and have their world premieres there, the organizers have revealed on Thursday, August 10.

Among those slated to come are "The Last Kiss", "For Your Consideration", "Stranger Than Fiction", plus "El Cantante", the Jennifer Lopez - Marc Anthony flick which tells the life story of Hector Lavoe, the man who introduced salsa to U.S public. Another big name, "The Fountain", will also be featured at the festival to encounter its North American premiere.

Hollywood beauty Jennifer Lopez is teaming up with husband Marc Anthony to star in the upcoming drama flick based on the life of iconic Puerto Rican singer Hector Lavoe entitled "El Cantante" (The Singer). With a release date scheduled for sometime next year, the film has started filming Sunday in New York with shooting also is planned in Puerto Rico.

"El Cantante," which actually is the song written by Ruben Blades and popularized by Lavoe, will see Anthony portrays Lavoe and Lopez his wife, Puchi. Also it will feature John Ortiz as Willie Colon. Besides starring in Lopez is serving as a producer as well. In hand directing the film is Leon Ichaso.

Do you know Hector Lavoe? If not I'll tell you then. He's one of the biggest Spanish-language singers in the 1970s, but personal tragedy and a heroin addiction left him penniless and dying from complications from AIDS. He probably was best known for his crystal-clear voice and an incomparable talent for improvisation.

In a great respect for him, Handprint Entertainment is about to bring into life his biopic. It's titled "El Cantante." The Leon Ichaso direction will begin filming November 14th in New York for four weeks, with one additional week of filming taking place in Puerto Rico.
