'Cloverfield' Sequel's Possibility Addressed

Providing an update to reports on the development of "" sequel, producer/director J.J. Abrams has spilled the bean on the status of the proposed project. During a "" panel at the WonderCon 2009 on Saturday, February 28, he revealed that the possible sequel of the 2008 hit monster movie could be in its early stages.

"We're working on one right now," Abrams responded when asked about the chances of another "Cloverfield" film. He continued explaining, "The key obviously is with a sequel, certainly with this film, is that it had better not be a business decision. If you're going to do something, it should be because you're really inspired to do it."

When the monster movie "" hit the theaters back in January, it created such a buzz that it went on to rake in as much as $170.5 million worldwide. Seeing the enthusiastic responds from moviegoers, online publications started to speculate about a sequel which get a positive nod from the film's filmmakers. However, words around "Cloverfield 2" kept on going in and out ever since generating questions whether it would be done or not.

On the latest report outed by Sci Fi Wire, it is said that any further plans on the sequel have been put on hold until the filmmakers can come out with great idea like the first one. Revealing about the decision was director Matt Reeves in an interview at the Saturn Awards in Universal City, California, on June 24. "The thing that we sort of promised ourselves is we only wanted to do another one if we could come up with something that felt as fresh to us to make as that one did," shared the co-creator of television drama "Felicity".

The past few months following the release of the hit monster movie "", buzzes about the making of its sequel have been coming in and out in the media. Back in April, producer J.J. Abrams has hinted that the possibility of a sequel has been discussed. However, lately the filmmaker has come out with a contrasting comment.

Commenting on the sequel at a New York press conference on May 15, the "" director confessed that he is more interested on working on another project with writer Drew Goddard and director Matt Reeves than making the sequel. "So my dream is to work with [Goddard and Reeves] again, but do something that's [new]," explained the "Mission: Impossible III" director and co-writer. "We're talking about it. But the truth is there's another idea that I'd rather do with the same people than do a sequel. It's a whole new thing."

Abrams revealed the other way around. In an interview with "The Loop" of G4's Attack of the Show, the filmmaker talks about the possible follow-up or spin-off of the film.

Hinting on the chance of the sequel development, the 41-year-old "Lost" co-creator stated that people behind the hit thriller have jotted down several great ideas for the sequel. "There is a couple ideas that Drew Goddard , the writer, and Matt Reeves have that are pretty fantastic," explained Abrams. "So we're playing around with some ideas and obviously if it isn't something that really excited us and inspires us, we won't do it. But there are some good ideas out there."

Two Alternate Endings of 'Cloverfield' Outed Online

As the DVD version of hit sci-fi thriller "" is nearing its release on April 22, it has been reported that two alternate endings of the monster movie have come out online. Allegedly, both of the endings which each took more than two minutes to be previewed are attached to the DVD.

From the two videos posted below, it can be seen that the two alternate endings begin with the same scene where Rob and Beth take shelter the tunnel before the bombs drop and kill the monster. Following that, the first alternate ending shows a scene on a subway platform in which Rob is taping and chasing Beth around before they go to Coney Island, whereas the second ending is said to show a glimpse of a man who finds the camera. According to ShockTillYouDrop, director Matt Reeves explained that the second ending suggested that Rob and Beth may have been rescued.

Following the much reported rumors about the making of "" sequel, it was reported that Matt Reeves may be back for the second installment of the successful monster movie. According to Variety, the action sci-fi triller's director is in early talks with Paramount Pictures to helm "Cloverfield 2".

In its reports, Variety noted that though Reeves has signed a deal with GreeneStreet Films to direct "", his next project can be the film's sequel. However, it depends on how quick the studio can finish the discussions with Reeves, producer J.J. Abrams and screenwriter Drew Goddard.

The rumor that the sequel of the monster movie "" will be made might be true after all. While the film's director Matt Reeves talks about the sequel possibility earlier, Joblo.com reported that he apparently left hint about the sequel within the film itself.

On Wednesday, January 16, night, the Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, California became the black host of the new suspense flick "" premiere. Anyone seeing the new trailer for "" should find some footage was shown rather quickly, not to mention the shaky shots from the hand-held camcorder, that it was hard to take glimpses on the monster in the flick.

But cheer up now, folks, one segment from the piece featuring the creature has been turned into a slow-motion video which reveals parts of the beast for sure. Still, apart from what look like to be lower two legs and enormous torso, there's nothing more spotted from it.

Another viral website for J.J. Abrams-produced secretive project "1-18-08" is suspected to have appeared on the net. Words has it that the site may be that for a company named Tagruato Corporation located at Tagruato.jp.

What makes Tagruato gets speculated so is that it turns out to have Slusho! as one of its subsidiaries, a brand for an icy cool beverage which has been known among moviegoers to have strong connection with the monster movie. Moreover, the company and the monster appear to have one thing in common: both are dealing with the sea, the former being described as a deep sea petroleum drilling company based out of Japan while the latter believed to emerge from the sea.

A posting on Slashfilm.com has informed a new trademark named "Overnight" was registered on July 18, 2007 for the use in "motion picture, television and music production and distribution services" by attorneys known to be associates of Abrams. What makes things fishy here is that they also happen to be the ones registering the Slusho.jp, which has been presumed to be the viral website for the project, as well as the name of Abrams' production company, Bad Robot.

Placed on Apple.com, the clip can be seen in either standard or high definition format, the former one being available in small, medium, and large size. Not much is known about the story except for a slight hint about the creature through a piece of dialogue saying "I saw it, it's alive, it's huge!"
