Picking up the best among notable big screen titles and names for its 33rd annual Saturn Awards, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films finally listed out those worthy for the honors in movie categories as it held the ceremony yesterday, May 10 at the Universal Hilton.

Consistently promoting fair, accurate, and balanced portrayals of Latinos in the U.S. entertainment industry, the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) for the thirteenth time is going to hold its American Latino Media Arts Awards or known as ALMA Awards and has officially revealed titles and names nominated for the prizes.

The list was made public by telecast host , NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguia, and Mario Lopez on April 16 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. James, who wrote the original book version from which the flick was developed, should draw a really big smile by now as their work finally was deemed the winner of the 19th Annual USC Libraries Scripter Award.

"This year's five nominated films were, all of them, heartfelt and elegantly wrought," USC School of Cinematic Arts Writing Division chair Howard Rodman commented. "In that heady company, 'Children of Men' was first among equals. (The team) took P.D. James' bracingly dystopic novel and crafted from it a film at once brave, subtle (and) shocking. Given annually, the prize honors writers for the best achievement in adaptation among English-language pictures released during the previous year and based on a book, novella, or short story.

As the 2006 Venice Film Festival is set to unravel less than two months, the line-up of films to be screened at this world's oldest cinema contest has been revealed on Thursday, July 27 by the organizers of the event. What comes as a surprise is that for the first time at the festival, all films competing for the top Golden Lion award will make their world premiere there.

Concerning this new move, the event's artistic director, Marco Mueller, has given his comment, saying it to be both a source of pride and a great risk. "The risk of failure is high because all these films are unknown quantities," so he commented. "But it also shows that producers realize that the Venice festival can be a useful way to introduce a certain kind of film. It is a vote of confidence in this event."
