BAFTA 2006 Winners
February 20, 2006 10:02:09The gay cowboy romance flick "Brokeback Mountain" scores great at the Orange British Academy Film Awards held Sunday Feb 19th, 2006. It among others lassoes the prizes for the category of Best Film, Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Jake Gyllenhaal, Adapted Screenplay for Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana, and The David Lean Award for Achievement in Direction for Ang Lee.
Chosen Best British Film is "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit", while Philip Seymour Hoffman nabs the Best Actor in a Leading Role award thanks to his portrayal in "Capote." Brought home the Best Actress in a Leading Role award is Reese Witherspoon for "Walk the Line" and chosen as Best Actress in a Supporting Role is Thandie Newton for "Crash." The 78th Annual Oscar Nominees
January 31, 2006 09:01:49As announced Tuesday Jan 31st by Sid Ganis, Academy President and Mira Sorvino at Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills, CA, gay romance "Brokeback Mountain" gloriously leads the 78th Annual Academy Awards nominees, taking eight nominations. The flick ups for the categories of Best Picture, Best Actor for Heath Ledger, Best Supporting Actor for Jake Gyllenhaal, Best Supporting Actress for Michelle Williams, Best Director for Ang Lee, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Music Written for Motion Pictures.
Following close behind is "Crash" and "Good Night, and Good Luck" which score six nominations each. As of the previous film, it vies for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Matt Dillon, Best Director for Paul Haggis, Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best Music Written for Motion Picture. Meanwhile, the latter flick is nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor for David Strathairn, Best Director for George Clooney, Best Original Screenplay, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography.

Capote Won the 18th Annual Scripter Award
January 19, 2006 04:01:04Tying tight with "Syriana" for the University of Southern California's 18th annual Scripter Award, which honors the year's best film adaptation of a book, novella or short story, "Capote" finally comes up as the winner.
The drama movie, based on a book written by Gerald Clarke which stayed on the New York Times best-seller list for 13 weeks, beat off the other finalists, including "Brokeback Mountain", "The Constant Gardener", and "A History of Violence."

Capote & Syriana Up for the 17th Scripter Award
January 17, 2006 10:01:41This movie awards season will see "Capote" and "Syriana" competing one another to secure the University of Southern California's 17th annual Scripter Award, which honors the year's best film adaptation of a book, novella or short story, and is the only award that honors both the author and screenwriter.
The writers of both films reportedly have received an equal number of votes in the Scripter selection committee balloting. Thus, a runoff vote will be held to determine this year's winning film, which final results to be made public Wednesday Jan 18. And as the winner has been revealed, the award will then be presented on February 11 during a black-tie dinner.

Low-Budget Films Up for Independent Spirit Award
November 30, 2005 09:11:11The Independent Spirit Awards, the American art-house world's version of the Oscars, already reaches its 21st year. The event, which honors low-budget films based on such criteria as original, provocative subject matter and degree of independent financing, will announce its winners March 4 next year, the day before the Academy Awards.
Contenders for the award were announced Tuesday. Among them was the low-budget drama about a family torn apart by divorce "The Squid and the Whale." The movie revolves on Capote's research into the Kansas murder case that he wrote about in In Cold Blood, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener and Chris Cooper.
Meanwhile, the release of "Capote" is said to be in rush with the untitled Warner Independent Pictures/Killer Films' project, directed by Douglas McGrath and starring British actor Toby Jones as Capote, which is slated for 2006 release.
