Kristen Bell Cast as Christina Aguilera's Rival in 'Burlesque'

Kristen Bell will sing and dance to get her spotlight back in "Burlesque". The latest news related to the actress best known for her title role in TV series "Veronica Mars" unraveled that she has signed on to join the cast of the musical drama for Screen Gems, and is set to star as the rival of Christina Aguilera's character.

The 29-year-old will portray a character named Nikki, who is described to be a loose-cannon lead dancer and main attraction at a neo-burlesque club who spirals out of control when Aguilera's small town girl character suddenly gets the spotlight. She is expected to join the production when principal photography begins November 9.

It is confirmed that Cher will join the production of Screen Gems' contemporary musical film entitled "Burlesque". She is slated to portray a former dancer who struggles to keep a neo-burlesque club on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles opens. Cher will also sing on-screen, which marks the first time that she will show her singing skills on a film she stars in.

Gushing about the 63-year-old actress/singer's character, Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper says, "She brings a soulfulness and gravitas to this character that will ground the story." Culpepper, in addition, claims the mother of two definitely agreed to become one of the actresses of the film, but she has to adjust with her tour and performance's schedules in Las Vegas.

The rumor suggesting that songstress Christina Aguilera sets her eyes on "Burlesque" is very much true. Variety reported that the four-time Grammy Award-winner has signed on to star in the Steve Antin-directed contemporary musical for Screen Gems, making the movie as her big screen debut.

28-year-old Aguilera will portray an ambitious small town girl with a big voice who finds love, family and success in a neo-burlesque club in Los Angeles. Of her involvement in the project, Screen Gems topper Clint Culpepper commented, "I couldn't be more excited, as this was a project written with her in mind."

Four time Grammy-winning singer Christina Aguilera could be making her big screen debut in "Burlesque". Of the possibility, E! Online reported that the 28-year-old is interested in landing a starring role as a modern-day striptease dancer in the drama movie for Screen Gems. Still, it is unclear if she has read for the part or how far along the negotiations have gone.

While words on the possibility are spreading fast, Aguilera's representative declined to make any comment on the matter. Similar response was given by a representative for Screen Gems. Though confirming that the movie is indeed in development, the studio's rep claimed that it's "too preliminary to comment on" casting.
