Nothing's perfect, but it's worth seeing.

Had the feel of a mid 70's Woody Allen romantic comedy, the movies core is elevated by Krasinski's showcase monologue in the 3rd act that is evidence of his acting ability, but also I can assume (having not read the source material) displays a level of faithfulness to the book that is damning. With language seemingly perfect on the page but contrived on a screen the end, "Judge me-You Bitch!" feels forced, not the challenge but the sloppy effort to convey anger and loathing, emotions already effectively delivered to the viewer without use of a sledgehammer. All in all the rest of the cast shines save for the female lead. Ms. Nicholson always seems to sleep walk through her roles and this is no different. Chris Meloni unleashes his fire too ferociously and his dialogue is a cartoon ideal of NY-NJ cadences but ultimately he makes it work. Josh Charles as always leaves you wanting more and it is really nice to see Bobby Canivale play a not so nice guy, albeit with, once more a cartoonish accent and dialogue. Ultimately the biggest knock on this maybe Krasinski the writer and his unfortunate habit of underserving Krasinski the actor and Director as well as the other cast.
