what really stinks about Before I Fall is that it zaps all the fun and humor out of its time-bending premise, leaving behind a lot of moping to randomly selected pop cues. Thankfully, breaking the movie's loop is simple: Just don't ever watch it again
the film mostly retains its humanity, largely thanks to Deutch's performance and Russo-Young's insistence on keeping her at the forefront of almost every shot. Deutch takes Sam through adolescent naivete, angst, and wonder
in the wash of cliches, Deutch keeps us in Sam's corner by bringing sincerity and hard-edged humor to the role... it's a small comfort, but we'll take it
