The 22nd Imagen Awards Movie Winners Named
July 30, 2007 02:07:06Preserving its tradition in encouraging and recognizing the positive portrayal of Latinos in all media as well as increasing Latino representation at all levels of the entertainment industry, the Imagen Foundation once again listed out the honorees of its Imagen Awards for this year's celebration held on Saturday, July 28 at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Coming out as the top scorer in film slot was surrealistic feature "Pan's Labyrinth" which triumphantly got deemed Best Picture, beating out strong competitors like "Babel" and "Apocalypto." Pic also led helmer Guillermo del Toro and star Ivana Baquero to receive Best Director and Actress honor, respectively.

January 12, 2007 01:01:08Seems the Mexican audience have to bury their hope of seeing Mel Gibson as they come to the premiere of his latest directorial work "Apocalypto" in the country.
The 20th Century Fox publicist Christina Inman said yesterday, January 11 that the "Braveheart" star will not spare his time to attend the event nor a news conference of the picture though he indeed is going to visit Mexico next week for a private viewing of the movie.

"Apocalypto" Finally Got Age Restriction in Italy
January 09, 2007 02:01:29Ending the dispute concerning the nonexistence of viewer restrictions on "Apocalypto" in the country, an Italian court has temporarily ruled that youths under age fourteen are barred from watching the gory film, overthrowing the decision made by local cinema board of review that considered it fit enough for children.
Marco Ramadori, a lawyer for Codacons, the consumer group which brought the case to the court in favor of setting an age-limit, remarked yesterday, January 8, that the ban is valid until January 17, after which a panel of judges is expected to make a final ruling on the case.

"Apocalypto" Sparks Controversy in Italy
January 05, 2007 02:01:32After setting fire among the indigenous members of the Mayan culture, R-rated drama "Apocalypto" again causes ruckus in public, this time in Italy. Local cinema board review has ruled that the movie, despite its content of gruesome slayings and human sacrifices, will be released without viewer restrictions as it opens in theaters today, evoking criticisms from politicians also Codacons, a leading consumer group in the country.
The ANSA and Apcom agencies reported that Culture Minister Francesco Rutelli has written a letter addressed to the film's local distributor Eagle Picture urging the company to alert audience to the flick's gory content and to discourage minors from going to see the movie.

The 12th Annual Critics' Choice Awards Contenders
December 13, 2006 10:12:36The largest critics' organization in U.S and Canada, the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) revealed yesterday, December 12, the nominees of its Critics' Choice Awards to compete for being the best as it holds the ceremony on January 12 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
"Dreamgirls", "Babel", "The Departed", and "Little Miss Sunshine" scored most nominations with seven nods apiece, including that for Best Picture. Those four were joined by six other movies in the category namely "Blood Diamond", "Little Children", "Notes on a Scandal", "The Queen", "Letters From Iwo Jima", and "United 93", the latter two already snatching two film awards each.

This statement then automatically pushes aside all the recent media and Internet publications which have reported the studio to have sold the film's distribution rights to another studio following the controversial anti-Semitic remarks the movie's filmmaker, Mel Gibson, has made. As reported before, the noted actor-director was arrested on Friday, July 28 for driving under the influence (DUI) while also has been charged for keeping an open container of alcohol in his car in connection with the traffic stop, during which he told a sheriff's deputy that Jews "were responsible for all the wars in the world."
