Timeline of 'Alien' Prequel Explained

Director Ridley Scott has offered a few hints related to the timeline of the upcoming "Alien" prequel. When accompanying his daughter, Jordan, to debut her film "Cracks" at the London Film Festival, the 71-year-old filmmaker suggested that the futuristic movie will not tell the story of how the extra-terrestrial creatures found their way to LV-426.

To Empire, Ridley shared, "It's a brand new box of tricks." He went on detailing the timeline, "We know what the road map is, and the screenplay is now being put on paper. The prequel will be a while ago. It's very difficult to put a year on Alien, but [for example] if Alien was towards the end of this century, then the prequel story will take place thirty years prior."

The man behind 1979's "Alien", Ridley Scott, is officially attached to direct "Alien" prequel, Variety reported. The updated news contradicts earlier reports which suggested that Ridley appointed commercial director Carl Erik Rinsch for the role behind the camera, and supports rumors that 20th Century Fox won't green-lit the movie without the Academy Award-nominated filmmaker.

Back in May, Entertainment Weekly (EW) had come out with a story that there are conflicting ideas on who should take the director seat. While Ridley wants Rinsch to take the job, "the studio is not interested in greenlighting a prequel unless Scott himself directs," so the publication stated. To complicate things even more, Rinsch has more than a professional relationship to Ridley as rumor has it, he is romantically linked to Ridley's daughter, Jordan.

Still in early development, the new "Alien" movie allegedly has had its share of complication since there are conflicting ideas on who should take the director seat. While it has been revealed earlier that commercial director Carl Erik Rinsch was attached to direct, Entertainment Weekly (EW) has come out with a report that 20th Century Fox have yet to agree with the choice.

EW noted that insiders stated "the studio is not interested in greenlighting a prequel unless Scott himself directs." To complicate things even more, the publication reported that Rinsch, who is expected to make his feature debut with the project, has more than a professional relationship to Ridley. Words are, he is romantically linked to Ridley's daughter, Jordan, who is also a commercial helmer.

Next 'Alien' Movie to Be a Prequel

While earlier rumor suggested that "Alien" movie will be getting a reboot treatment, the recent one claims that 20 Century Fox lean toward planning on a prequel movie. Bloody Disgusting broke the news, reporting that their reliable source has said that the studio are "possibly working on an origins story, as opposed to a straight-up remake".

The site went further by stating that the plan for now is to stick with the original concept of an alien on the ship. While no other details on the plot has been shared, commercial/music video director Carl Erik Rinsch reportedly is attached to helm with Michael Costigan, Ridley Scott and Tony Scott on board to produce.
