This story is the greatest story ever told. It's our story as individuals. It's our story as a society. It's our story as One Universe... One Soul... "I could see, in the depths of his eyes, my own beauty reflected.' 'What a lovely story,' the alchemist thought."

For those wondering about which character Laurence Fishburne is playing in the movie, he is definitely NOT playing the role of Santiago, the main character in the story. According to Wikipedia, he is playing the role of the eponymous character. Meaning, the one the book is named after. In other words, the Alchemist. Historically speaking, film interpretations of great novels, such as The Da Vinci Code, have time and again fallen miserably short of transmitting the pure essence and substance of the story onto the big screen. Unfortunately, more often than not, this proves unfavorable towards promoting the true value of the literary version. I pray this will not be the case for the Alchemist. We'll just have to let our hearts be the judge of that!

hopefully hollywood does not stereotype arabs and north african in a negative way as usual.Ignorance is dangerous and knowledge and wisdom is freedom

The most difficult thing to do is to have a relationship with one's own heart! Even difficult is to accept wisdom and the most precious treasure!! This book is a pure genius work by Paulo Cohelo. It speaks about the importance of the path you chose to reach your destiny and the precious most learning life gives us when we follow the heart. 'The soul of the universe' or 'The soul of the almighty" is nothing but one's own soul and contains all the wisdom of the universe. all you need is to realise this fact and respect your heart. I heard Laurence Fishburne was playing the part of Santiago, which would be totally wrong! The man is almost 50 years old! I see him more as the Alchemist perhaps. If he does play Santiago, that indicates to me that the spirit of the book is not being respected and I will not bother seeing the movie.

The book is one of the greatest stories ever told. Is Laurence Fishburne playing the role of Santiago? If he is, WHY? The story is about Santiago who is an adolescent if not early twenties, not an old man that is not spanish.

The Alchemist is definetly a story that will capture many hearts and has given faith and motivation to never give up to whom has read the book. As president of Alvarado Inc. this was my favorite book to read in times were black clouds crossed before me. Never give up "Yes im talking to you; Never give up"
