It will be great if Mr. Fishburne would take in consideration to have Aishwarya Rai on the role of Fatima on the Alchemist, since as the novel says, Fatima's eyes are to die for, and Aishwarya Rai has everything the character needs. And, we are hardly waiting for that movie, When Mr. Fishburne?

I just read this book for a leadership class and it is awesome...and personally life changing. I have read previous post and I agree don't spare a dime to make this a movie that can stand up to the book.

@Mowlid. Just an FYI, this is based on the Paulo Coelho book from 1988, not the Alchemyst book series by Michael Scott.

I enjoyed reading the four books and still waiting for the 5th one,i still think that the movie is gonna be alittle bit different from the book. We all know that the books of most movies aren't exactly the same thing or same details. but i can't wait for the movie,i gotta find out when its coming out!

If this is made into a movie I think it should be high budget and done properly, coelho has had other books turned into movies 'veronica decides to die' which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as the main character, this movie was no where near as good as the book and it didn't even keep to the original setting which was in spain. I do hope the Alchemist is made into a top end movie as the book is genius despite what some critics say and coelho writes from the heart not from his pocket hunger.

I,like many others I'm sure, heard Will Smith mention this book. I can't believe I'm just reading this. It is awesome. My 10-year old stated that she thought the book should be a movie and plow dow!!! Her dream has come true.

I really hope they will make this wonderful book into a great movie (unlike the Celestial Prophecy which was turned into a catastrophic movie)

This story is the greatest story ever told. It's our story as individuals. It's our story as a society. It's our story as One Universe... One Soul... "I could see, in the depths of his eyes, my own beauty reflected.' 'What a lovely story,' the alchemist thought."

For those wondering about which character Laurence Fishburne is playing in the movie, he is definitely NOT playing the role of Santiago, the main character in the story. According to Wikipedia, he is playing the role of the eponymous character. Meaning, the one the book is named after. In other words, the Alchemist. Historically speaking, film interpretations of great novels, such as The Da Vinci Code, have time and again fallen miserably short of transmitting the pure essence and substance of the story onto the big screen. Unfortunately, more often than not, this proves unfavorable towards promoting the true value of the literary version. I pray this will not be the case for the Alchemist. We'll just have to let our hearts be the judge of that!

The most difficult thing to do is to have a relationship with one's own heart! Even difficult is to accept wisdom and the most precious treasure!! This book is a pure genius work by Paulo Cohelo. It speaks about the importance of the path you chose to reach your destiny and the precious most learning life gives us when we follow the heart. 'The soul of the universe' or 'The soul of the almighty" is nothing but one's own soul and contains all the wisdom of the universe. all you need is to realise this fact and respect your heart. Love Nagendra (NAGI)

I heard Laurence Fishburne was playing the part of Santiago, which would be totally wrong! The man is almost 50 years old! I see him more as the Alchemist perhaps. If he does play Santiago, that indicates to me that the spirit of the book is not being respected and I will not bother seeing the movie.

    Not a book to movie
    Apr 25, 2009

The book is one of the greatest stories ever told. Is Laurence Fishburne playing the role of Santiago? If he is, WHY? The story is about Santiago who is an adolescent if not early twenties, not an old man that is not spanish.

The Alchemist is definetly a story that will capture many hearts and has given faith and motivation to never give up to whom has read the book. As president of Alvarado Inc. this was my favorite book to read in times were black clouds crossed before me. Never give up "Yes im talking to you; Never give up"

The Alchemist is a special story, and a real gift from Paulo Coelho. I hope everyone will one day read this book, and share it with others. I'm excited that Laurence Fishburne is at the helm of this movie. I wonder what 'Morpheus' can come up with!
