Sacking 'Leatherheads', '21' Remains Supreme at Box Office
April 07, 2008 10:04:51The Columbia Pictures' blackjack drama "21" has proved its dominance at the North American box office as the Robert Luketic's film reigned over "Leatherheads" and "Nim's Island". At this weekend box office that ended Sunday, April 6, 2008, the film that features Jim Sturgess, Kate Bosworth, Laurence Fishburne and Kevin Spacey has stayed atop by earning $15.3 million.
Despite facing a drop of about 36.4% in ticket sales, the film about a group of MIT students who do the illegal card-counting act to win million in blackjack tables in Las Vegas has raked in total $46.7 million after 10-days of screening. Seeing the success garnered by the film so far, the movie co-produced by Spacey is reportedly expected to continue to do better at the box office.

'21' Kicked Off 'Horton' From Box Office Throne
March 31, 2008 10:03:56The blackjack drama "21" has hit the jackpot at the three-days weekend North American box office, which ended Sunday, March 30, as the Columbia Pictures nailed the top spot and unseated the reigning champion "Horton Hears a Who!" from its #1 seat. According to an estimation made by Box Office Mojo, the Jim Sturgess and Kate Bosworth starring film has exceeded the studio expectation and opened big by grossing $24.1 million.
Said to be inspired by a true story, the film that tells about six MIT students who conspire to count cards at the blackjack tables to win millions in Las Vegas has reportedly appealed to the younger moviegoers as Box Office Mojo reported that 53% of the audience was under 25 years old. Further, the film also marked Bosworth and co-star Kevin Spacey's biggest theatrical opening since "Superman Returns" which debuted with $52.5 million.

The 15th Annual SXSW Films Lineup Unveiled
February 05, 2008 03:02:08A month preceding the opening of the 15th edition of the South By Southwest Film Conferences and Festival, the film event organizers finally revealed the complete lineup of the film to be screened during the festival. On the event held from March 7 to 15 in Austin, Texas, some 113 feature films have been set to be showcased, in which 64 of them will have their world premieres at the festival.
Listed up in the Spotlight Premieres section which shows the high-profile, anticipated films are 35 films including Robert Luketic's "21", Brett Simon's "Assassination of a High School President", Clark Gregg' "Choke", Nicholas Stoller's "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", David Schwimmer's "Run, Fat Boy, Run", Kimberly Peirce's "Stop-Loss" and Helen Hunt's "Then She Found Me". "21" starring Jim Sturgess and Kate Bosworth will open the festival, whereas Stephen Walker's "Young@Heart" is set to be the closing film.

'21' to Open the 15th Annual SXSW Film Conference and Festival
January 03, 2008 11:01:42Columbia Pictures' film "21" is set to be the opening film in the 15th annual South by Southwest Film Conference & Festival in Austin, Texas. The new drama thriller will screen at Austin's Paramount Theatre, on Friday, March 7, 2008, which will precede its premiere schedule on March 28.
About the choosing of the movie as the opening film, SXSW festival producer Matt Dentler commented, "'21' represents everything you want in an opening night film." He then added, "A really great production, very entertaining, a great cast and a talented crew. Plus, we know it's a film on many a radar, from the indie side as well as the Hollywood side."
