Video Premiere: The Academy Is...'s 'About a Girl'
October 30, 2008 11:10:56The Academy Is... debut a music video to promote their brand new song called "About a Girl". Shot in a so-called Barrington High School, the video gives a look at the life of a high schooler, played by frontman William Beckett, who falls in love with a girl but has no courage to tell her.
"About a Girl" is one of the new singles on the pop punk band's third studio album "Fast Times at Barrington High". Revolving around the final year of senior high school, the record is produced by S*A*M, who has also produced Gym Class Heroes' digital EP, "Patches From the Quilt".
The Academy Is... Work on a New Album
May 10, 2008 01:05:20Indie rock band The Academy Is... don't wait long to release a new album. Following the release of their latest set "Santi" in 2007, the band have already started the working of their upcoming album.
The Academy have headed back to the studio earlier this week to begin the album's production. The yet to be titled LP, is set to be the band's third studio album so far. It is also said that the next album would be consisting about 20 tracks.

MTVU annual award show, Woodie, has announced its nominees with The Shins on the lead. The indie rock group are up for three categories 'Alumni Woodie', 'Viral Woodie' and the prestigious 'Woodie of the Year' . For the latter, they will compete against Amy Winehouse, Common, Gym Class Heroes and Lily Allen.
Further down the list, Modest Mouse, Gym Class Heroes, Allen, Justice, Linkin Park, and The Academy Is... take two nominations each, while others such as Arcade Fire, Lil Wayne, Bright Eyes, The Knife, Klaxons, M.I.A., Spoon, Cansei de Ser Sexy, The Rapture, TV on the Radio, Thom Yorke and Paramore get their fair share of one nomination each.
The Smashing Pumpkins' Hits Covered by Bands

Helmed by MySpace, a project is being baked for bands like Panic! At the Disco, 30 Seconds to Mars, +44 and The Academy Is... to record their favorite songs from The Smashing Pumpkins' collection.
Each band will post their version of Pumpkins' songs on their respective MySpace blog on May 14. The covered-songs will then be molded into CD that will be available along with July edition of Spin Magazine. The magazine will also feature each band's personal comment on the Pumpkins.
Pete Wentz Opening "Angels & Kings" Bar

Fresh from his teaming up with fashion giant DKNY, Pete Wentz is having a new bar to be opened in New York at the end of the month.
The Fall Out Boy bassist is teaming up with members of Gym Class Heroes and The Academy Is... to open a new hangout, Angels and Kings, in the Big Apple, which according to Wentz is aimed to provide locals with a down-to-earth, relaxed environment to drink in.
Rhino Ent. to Release "Sounds of Superman"

While there won't be official soundtrack for the highly anticipated flick "Superman Returns", Rhino Entertainment is planning to release "Sounds of Superman", which is the soundtrack CD of the film.
Due June 13th later this year, the set contains several fun covers, including R.E.M.'s "Superman" by The Academy Is ..., The Kinks' "(Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman" by The Sun, Donovan's "Sunshine Superman" by The Films, and Foo Fighters' "My Hero" by Paramore.
