2009 Evening Standard British Film Awards Announces Nominees
January 14, 2009 01:01:04Hot on the heels of the 66th Golden Globe Awards celebration last Sunday, January 11, British newspaper Evening Standard announced the nominations of the 2009 Evening Standard British Film Awards. On Tuesday, January 13, it was made public that "Frost/Nixon", "Slumdog Millionaire", "Hunger" and "The Reader" are among those vying for the awards.
"Frost/Nixon" and "Hunger" were both up for the Best Film title along with Joanna Hogg-directed "Unrelated". The two had also secured a nod for Best Actor category, Michael Sheen for "Frost/Nixon" and Michael Fassbender for "Hunger". "Frost/Nixon", in addition, had collected a Best Screenplay gong for its scribbler Peter Morgan, while "Hunger" gave its editor Joe Walker a chance to win an award in the Technical Achievement field.
Full Nominees List of 11th British Independent Film Awards

On Tuesday, October 28, at Soho House in London, it is unveiled that IRA prison drama "Hunger" and crime comedy "In Bruges" have dominated the list by collecting seven nominations each.
Both of them will battle it out for the title of Best British Independent Film, contending also with "Slumdog Millionaire", "Man on Wire" and "Somers Town". They will also go head-to-head for Best Screenplay and Best Debut Director. The latter is also known as The Douglas Hickox Award.

The biggest winner in TV category was "Longford." The 2006 drama television film, aired on Channel 4, walked away with three awards; Best Mini-Series Or Motion Picture Made for Television, Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Jim Broadbent, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Samantha Morton.
British Actress Samantha Morton Gave Birth to a Baby Girl

The newborn baby, who has not yet been named, was born in an undisclosed London hospital in the early hours of Friday, January 4.
28th London Critics' Circle Film Awards Nominees Listed

The two pictures each scores eight nods that include Attenborough Award for British Film of the Year and British Director of the Year, but neither of them are in the running for top prize Film of the Year. Another baby is on its way for Samantha Morton. The movie beauty and her fiance Harry Holm are expecting their first child together, it has been reported.
"It is wonderful news, they are both very excited and looking forward to having their new baby," Morton's publicist, Karon Maskill, tells People Tuesday August 7th. No other details being released except that the baby is due January next year.

Other actors to star in alongside Samantha are Peter Sarsgaard and Teri Garr, while Illeana Douglas has been cast in a supporting role. "Expired" reportedly will begin filming in L.A. after Thanksgiving.
Those Who Play Puffball

The thriller is an adaptation of Fay Weldon's 1980 novel of the same name that was adapted by Fay's son Dan Weldon. It tells the story of Liffey and her husband Richard, whose lives are almost destroyed by infidelity, the paranormal and bad weather when they purchase a remote, dilapidated cottage in the English countryside.
"Puffball" is expected to begin its pre-production next month and filming is starting in January at locations around the Monaghan/Armagh border. In hand to direct is Nicolas Roeg, and to star in is Donald Sutherland and Samantha Morton.
