Remy Ma Sentenced to Eight Years in Prison, No Jail House Wedding to Papoose
May 14, 2008 10:05:29Grammy-nominated rapper Remy Ma was sentenced to eight years in prison Tuesday, May 13 for shooting a female acquaintance outside an N.Y.C. nightclub. The sentence stemmed from a July 14, 2007 incident during which Ma fired a shot toward a childhood acquaintance, identified as Makeda Barnes Joseph, outside of a nightclub in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood upon suspected that she had stolen $3,000 from her purse.
Was convicted of assault, illegal weapon possession and attempted coercion, Ma initially faced a maximum 25 years in prison. Being sentenced to eight years behind bars, she begged the judge for leniency for the sake of "my little boy," blamed her difficult childhood which forced her to grow up "surrounded by failure, violence and poverty," but "made something out of nothing" from her life, for the shooting.
Papoose Plans to Wed Remy Ma in Prison

Radio host Egypt of BET's The Black Carpet confirmed on her highly rated television show on March 6 that Papoose and Ma have engaged. Egypt claimed Ma shared the exclusive news with her. Sources said both rap stars have been dating quietly for over two years and were planning to wed summer later this year.
Rapper Remy Ma Convicted of Shooting a Woman
March 28, 2008 02:03:10Remy Ma was convicted Thursday, March 27 of shooting a woman outside a Manhattan nightclub in July 2007. The rapper was convicted of assault, illegal weapon possession and attempted coercion, all of which put her under a maximum 25 years in prison.
The New York State Supreme Court jury cleared her of charges of gang assault, witness tampering, witness intimidation and assault in a separate incident in which her associates are accused of beating up the boyfriend of a witness. Ma was immediately taken into custody after the verdict was read, during when she quietly wiped away tears.

On Thursday, December 21, in New York City, Manhattan State Supreme Court Justice Rena Uviller said that the 26-year-old rapper could not leave the United States because of her criminal charges. Uviller stood on her decision though Ma's attorney, Ivan Fisher, told her that the tour would gave earn Ma as much as 40,000 dollars which she needed because she weren't able to make any booking or recording contracts after her arrest.

Remy Ma is clean. She's free of charge. The Grammy-nominated rapper was pleaded not guilty Sunday July 15th to attempted murder and other counts in the shooting of a woman in a trendy Manhattan neighborhood, after being arrested on Saturday night July 14th following a gunshot.
Ma surrendered to authority on Saturday night for allegedly shooting and seriously wounding a childhood acquaintance during a dispute outside of a Manhattan bar early morning in the day. She was then held on Rikers Island, charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon. A judge granted the prosecution's request for bail to be set at $250,000.
