Rapper Mos Def Rock and Rolling for 'Cadillac'
March 29, 2008 01:03:42Grammy Award-nominated rapper Mos Def has been set to join the star-studded cast of the upcoming drama musical "Cadillac Records". According to Hollywood Reporter, the 34-year-old hip-hop artist has been tapped to play the rock 'n' roll legend Chuck Berry.
By playing the influential figure in the rock 'n' roll music, Def is the latest addition to the cast that include Adrien Brody, Beyonce Knowles, Columbus Short, Cedric the Entertainer, Gabrielle Union. In bringing the story of Chess Records' rise and fall to the big screen, the rapper whose acting skills are also recognized by the entertainment industry will join the other theps in New Jersey since the film is currently being shot there.
Mos Def Lands Role in Dramedy Bury Me Standing

Already recognized as one of only a handful of rappers who have garnered critical approval for their acting work, Mos Def has found himself a starring role in an indie feature titled "Bury Me Standing", a comedic drama about life, death, and the madness that follows when two people meet, BlackFilm.com has reported.
Also starring Kerry Washington and Alfre Woodward, project examines a young woman's reflections on death, a memorial, and a "family" that is forced to face its greatest fears when a young man suddenly dies. Washington will portray a character named Mod who makes a deal with Gloria, a mother who is mourning her son played by Woodward, to give away her unborn baby in exchange for her house.
Mos Def and Susan Sarandon Lend Their Names to Combat Childhood Obesity

Mos Def and Susan Sarandon, both come from different field of jobs, are teaming up to combat childhood obesity. The rapper and actress have agreed to lend their names as Honorary Co-Chairs to the 4th annual Children's Sports & Fitness Expo, aimed to combat childhood obesity by engaging children in over 25 sports activities and nutrition classes, which will take place on Saturday, September 29th later this year.
Based on the statistic released by the New York City Department of Health, there are at least of New York City school children who either overweight or obese. In learning the danger of childhood obesity Vincent Ferguson, president and founder of Body Sculpt of New York, Inc., a not-for-profit health and fitness organization, then created the Children's Sports & Fitness Expo.
Mos Def Counts to "Zero"

Continues paving his path in the film industry, rapper Mos Def is set to both star in and executive produce "Bobby Zero", a romantic comedy coming from Duly Noted Inc., Variety has revealed.
Here Def is poised to become the male lead in the project, which centers on a down-on-his-luck social satirist who gives up his artistic aspirations to work at an advertising agency.

Among numbers of music stars vying for the title of World's Sexiest Vegetarian, there we see Common. The rapper is vying for this year title, joining the likes of Persia White, Masta Killa, GZA, KRS-One, Murphy Lee, Mos Def, Prodigy, Forest Whitaker, and Ruben Studdard who are all in the running.
The annual poll, conducted by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), is the third one. It features over 200 celebrity candidates with winner of the 2007 World's Sexiest Vegetarian title will be revealed in late June.
Public Enemy, Billed to Join Rock the Bells Festival

Three names have been confirmed to headline Rock the Bells festival. Hip-hop group Public Enemy has added the latest jigsaw piece to the already announced performers Rage Against the Machine and Wu-Tang Clan.
The hip-hop festival is slated to kick off at the national Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino on August 11. In the event that will provide 2 stages, a list of other names are already prepared. Some of them are Mos Def, Cypress Hill, and The Roots.

First it was Jack Black who was appointed to take part in the comedy "Be Kind Rewind". As for now on there are at least four more actors added to the cast, they are Mos Def, Melonie Diaz, Mia Farrow and Danny Glover.
"Be Kind Rewind", a Michel Gondry's direction, follows the story of Black's character, a man who becomes accidentally magnetized while trying to sabotage a power plant. His magnetic field erases all the tapes in the video store where his best friend works. To save the store, the duo re-enact and re-film every movie that its single loyal customer, an elderly woman, rent.
Wu-Tang Clan Announced Dates for A Month-Long Summer Tour

American hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan has announced dates for a month-long summer tour that will include performances at San Diego's Street Scene, two Rock the Bells concerts and a pair of intimate shows at New York's Webster Hall.
The tour, held as a follow up to the string of warm-up shows they played earlier this year, will feature all the original members from the music act except Ol' Dirty Bastard, who died in 2004.

Notable rapper Mos Def and Sophie Okonedo are both in final talks to star in the indie drama "Stringbean and Marcus," which was written and will be directed by first-time feature helmer Tanya Hamilton.
Set in 1978, "Stringbean and Marcus" focuses on the broken love affair between two former Black Panther members (Mos Def and Okonedo) and is told through the eyes of an adolescent girl.

Fans of R&B and hip-hop music should be delighted to watch "Block Party." Depicting the situation in rehearsals and backstage, this documentary about Dave Chappelle's dream concert features some of the most gifted and socially conscious hip-hop and R&B artists, among others Kanye West, Mos Def, John Legend, Talib Kweli, The Fugees, Erykah Badu, plus Big Daddy Kane. And all appear in his show held on a corner in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
"Block Party" begins with Chappelle goes around to offer some golden tickets to the party days before the show to random citizens and acquaintances which include a convenience-store owner and a couple of probation officers while also invites the Central State University marching band to join the musical lineup. Directed by Michel Gondry, the docu also shows the scenes in which he delivers a megaphone-amped party invitation to "the Huxtables" of "Cosby Show" fame and clowns with neighborhood kids as he passes through a street of Brooklyn townhouses.
Mos Def Ordered to Pay More on Child Support
February 18, 2006 11:02:54Rapper Mos Def has been ordered by a New York judge to pay $10,000-a-month payments to ex-wife Maria Yepes-Smith, to care for their seven- and eight-year-old daughters. That is the result of the hip-hop star failing to pay checks to Yepes-Smith as part of their divorce settlement.
Mos actually was supposed to send checks to Yepes-Smith by Jan 1st, but due to financial problems the two checks he has sent so far have fallen short by about $2,000. Things get worse as Def also has three other kids to care for. "It's the best he can do under the circumstances. He has several children. He's always provided for them." So his attorney Steven Goldfeder explained.
