2008 National Board of Review's Winners Announced
December 05, 2008 04:12:30Winners of the 2008 National Board of Review have been unveiled on Thursday, December 4 and among the awards recipients is "Slumdog Millionaire". The Danny Boyle's drama about a poor Indian boy who gets a shot at winning millions in a television game show has been given three kudos, including for the coveted Best Film prize.
Apart from taking the Best Film title, "Slumdog" also brings recognition to its actor, Dev Patel who won Breakthrough Performance by an Actor. Additionally, it also gives Best Adapted Screenplay for screenwriter Simon Beaufoy, who shares the prize with "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" writer Eric Roth.
Winners of 2008 Gotham Independent Film Awards Announced
December 03, 2008 03:12:19"Frozen River" has come out victorious at the 18th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards. On December 2 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, the Sony Pictures Classics dramatic thriller has been awarded with two kudos from the awards presented to independent films and those who make them.
The Courtney Hunt-directed drama about a New York mother getting into the world of illegal immigrant smuggling has been recognized as Best Feature, beating out "Ballast", "Synecdoche, New York", "The Visitor" and "The Wrestler". Accepting the coveted award, Hunt said, "I did not see this one coming, I did not see this coming." Apart from the Best Picture prize, the movie also helped its star Melissa Leo to earn the Breakthrough Actor kudo.
