John Mellencamp Uses New Technology in New Album
May 10, 2008 02:05:01Although he is not a young artist anymore, John Mellencamp proves that he is not a conservative musician and acknowledges the advancement in music technology these days. Proving it, the veteran singer is set to use a new technology for his upcoming album "Life, Death, Love and Freedom" audio format. The new hardware is called CODE, and it was developed by John's producer T-Bone Burnett along with a team of engineers.
The new LP due to out on July 15, will be packaged in a different fashion to avoid a possible compatibility issues. For that, the album's package will include 2 disc-set, one is the standard audio edition in the form of CD, while the CODE version is being made on DVD. Although, it will be a two-disc set, the price won't be counted as two CD price.
John Mellencamp Wrote a Song for 'Jena'

John Mellencamp has expressed his concern towards Jena Six case though his music. The rocker recently composed a song in support of the six black teenagers who are accused of battering a white school mate.
The 'Jena' song has the lyrics: "An all white jury hides the executioner's face / Oh oh oh Jena / Oh oh oh Jena / Take your nooses down / So what becomes of boys that cannot think straight / Particularly those with paper bag skin / Yes sir, no sir wipe that smile off your face / We've got our rules here and you've got to fit in."
Willie Nelson Sets Farm Aid Concert in New York

Another Farm Aid concert will take place this year and surprisingly the venue is set in Randall's Island, New York. Announcing the news were board members Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Nelson told the press, "Farm Aid is coming to New York because your enthusiasm for family farm food is keeping family farmers on the land." Joining Nelson and Mellencamp on the September 9 gig are once again Neil Young and Dave Matthews.

In another major week for new releases, Pretty Ricky reaches the best achievement in the US album chart for the week ended Sunday January 28th. The hip-hop boy band has ended the "Dreamgirls" soundtrack's reign at the top of the Billboard 200 with their LP, "Late Night Special", sold 132,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The group's new album beats "Wincing the Night Away" by cult indie act The Shins who comes in 2nd with 118,000 copies sold. In the 3rd spot on the album chart is DAUGHTRY's self-titled RCA debut, which held the No. 1 spot the previous week, sold another 80,000 copies. Following at No. 4 is the new release "2007 Grammy Nominees," a collection of 23 tracks from this year's award contenders, which sold 77,000 copies.
Mellencamp Among Rock Hall Contenders
September 21, 2005 10:09:51Heartland rocker John Mellencamp has been chosen as one of this year inductees at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Joining him is jazz legend Miles Davis and rap pioneers Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five who also considered for the 21st class of Rock Hall.
Inductees, among others include Buddy Guy, the O'Jays, the Pretenders, Percy Sledge and U2, are selected by a panel of musicians, music industry professionals and journalists. Results will be announced before the end of the year with formal induction traditionally taking place in March at a ceremony in New York.
