Kanye West and Adam Levine Teaming Up for Barack Obama's Campaign Soundtrack
September 24, 2008 01:09:02Rapper Kanye West will collaborate with Maroon 5's vocalist Adam Levine in a compilation album to benefit Democratic candidate Barack Obama. Entitled "Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement", the soundtrack album will be released in conjunction with Hidden Beach Recordings and sold to raise money for Barack's campaign until November 4.
Joining Kanye and Adam in single "Promised Land" is African-American spoken word poet, Malik Yusef. Meanwhile, other stars who will lend their voices to the theme songs collection include Stevie Wonder, who will sing "Signed Sealed Delivered" and John Legend who will perform "Pride in the Name of Love".

In the event that appreciates the work of songwriters, Jermaine Dupri, Johnta Austin, Kelly Clarkson and Mary J. Blige came out the big champs. Namely ASCAP Pop Music Awards, the event honors musicians for their songwriting contribution to the music industry.
The event that was held April 19 saluted the joint Austin and Dupri with Songwriter of the Year title, thanks to their winning piece "Don't Forget About Us," "Like You," "Shake It Off" and "We Belong Together." Austin personally gained J. Blige-sung "Be Without You" and Chris Brown's hit "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)" while Dupri won for Nelly's "Grillz" and Chingy's "Pullin' Me Back".

Not only Rock and Roll stars get the chance to be inductees this year, the people behind popular hits will also be the inductees of Songwriters Hall of Fame (SHOF). Among the names mentioned as the nominees are Jackson Browne, Ray Davies, Merle Haggard and Lou Reed.
Conducted in respect for the works of composers and lyricists, this event will be held on June 7 at Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York. Performers and non-performers are two large categories in the nomination. The names above are those included as the performers. Meanwhile in the non-performer category, there are Don Black who has penned Michael Jackson's "Ben", Michael Masser who wrote "Touch Me in the Morning" for Diana Ross and also Albert Hammond who has co-written the hit "To All the Girls I've Loved Before".
