February 13, 2009 11:02:47"The Secret Life of Bees" has come out victorious at the 40th Annual NAACP Image Awards. On Thursday night, February 12, the female-driven drama that has dominated the awards nominations with nine nods walked away with two top honors, the Outstanding Motion Picture as well as Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture for its helmer Gina Prince-Bythewood.
For the Outstanding Motion Picture title, the movie about a tormented young girl finding solace in the world of beekeeping beat out "Cadillac Records", "Miracle at St. Anna", "Seven Pounds" and "The Family That Preys". As for Gina Prince-Bythewood, she bested over Darnell Martin of "Cadillac Records", Patrik Ian Polk of "Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom", Spike Lee of "Miracle at St. Anna" and Tyler Perry of "The Family That Preys".

During a press conference at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on Wednesday, January 7, it was uncovered that "The Secret Life of Bees" and "Cadillac Records" have led the fields with multiple counts. Southern-set drama "Secret Life" collected 8 nods, while musical drama "Cadillac" received 7 gongs.
Both "Secret Life" and "Cadillac" will have to compete against each other for many categories including, Outstanding Motion Picture and Outstanding Writing. In the run for Outstanding Motion Picture, the two were joined by Spike Lee's "Miracle at St. Anna", Gabriele Muccino's "Seven Pounds" and Tyler Perry's "The Family That Preys". Meanwhile, for the writing category, they are up against "Rachel Getting Married", "A Raisin In The Sun" and "Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom".
Glitzy 'Cadillac Records' Premiere in New York

On Monday, December 1, the drama musical saw a star-studded screening event being held at AMC Loews 19th Street in the Big Apple, where stars from Beyonce Knowles to Kelly Ripa were spotted.
Though missing out on the signature red carpet, the premiere extravaganza was still attended by Knowles' co-stars, Adrien Brody, Columbus Short, Eamonn Walker, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Gabrielle Union, Mos Def, Chyna Layne and Jeffrey Wright. Producer Sofia Sondervan and director Darnell Martin also made time to come to the event.
'Cadillac Records' Stars Glammed Up for Los Angeles Premiere

Benefiting Phoenix House, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those affected by addiction, the gala saw the film's stars dressing up for the special occasion.
While scruffy Adrien Brody walked down the red carpet wearing a black suit, his co-star Beyonce Knowles came to the premiere dressed in a black Dolce & Gabbana dress with puff sleeves. Brody was accompanied by Elsa Pataky, whereas Knowles brought her mother, Tina Knowles, to the special evening.
'Lethal Weapon 5' Moves On With Its Casting
October 07, 2008 11:10:37Dance choreographer-turned-actor Columbus Short is most likely to trade off his dancing shoes with guns in "Lethal Weapon 5". In a recent interview with IGN Movies, the 26-year-old revealed that he is in talks to star in the fifth film for the cop-action franchise stating, "We've been talking about it. Joel Silver talked to me about it, and it was like 'Um, yeah! I'll do Lethal Weapon with Danny [Glover] and Mel [Gibson]."
For the possible role he is going to tackle in the new project, he fessed up that he may end up playing the son of Danny Glover's character, LAPD Detective Sergeant Roger Murtaugh. "Joel says it'd be a great role," commented the actor who will soon be seen in "Quarantine" as Wilensky. Already got signed to do some action in both "Parkour" and a fighting movie directed by Dito Montiel, Channing Tatum appears to have one more to go in his schedule.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the charming actor is attached to highlight an untitled buddy action movie which will pair him with "Stomp the Yard" star Columbus Short, who recently wrapped "This Christmas" for Screen Gems.
Trio Blinded By "Whiteout"

Landing their feet together in the same vehicle, Gabriel Macht, Tom Skerritt, and Columbus Short have all reached deals to join Kate Beckinsale in the cast of action thriller "Whiteout", the first big screen production of Joel Silver's Dark Castle Entertainment.
Based on Greg Rucka's comic book miniseries, the picture focuses on a lone U.S. marshal assigned to Antarctica named Carrie Stetko who must solve a murder mystery before the sun set for six month there. While Skeritt and Short's roles are still unclear, it is revealed that Macht will play a U.N. operative who is also investigating the case.

Appears to be determined enough in making more marks in film acting, "Stomp the Yard" star Columbus Short is engaged in talks for a starring slot in Denzel Washington-directed drama feature "The Great Debaters", the actor himself has revealed to MTV.
"If that goes through, it could very well be my next movie," so he said. "It's a great script... One for the Oscars, possibly."
