Prior to the release of the record on March 5 and 6, 2007 in Europe and North America, respectively, first single "Black Mirror" was announced in January 2007. It helped the album to gain the second spot on Billboards Hot 200 in the first week of its release. Not only did 'Neon Bible' earned commercial success, but the album also gained recognition from critics especially when it was included in the shortlist of 2007 Polaris Music Prize. However, the band had declined their participation in the annual tradition of the prize where music from the nominees are included in a compilation. The band continued to promote the album through a massive tour throughout that year with most of the tickets flying off within minutes.
